The Brownlow Medal has been awarded since 1924 to the Fairest and Best player of the VFL/AFL Premiership Season. The 2019 medal was won by Nat Fyfe. He had an excellent year in 2019 despite Fremantle winning only 9 games and finishing 13th on the ladder. The season culminated with the sacking of their coach Ross Lyon.
By winning he became a dual Brownlow Medallist, and only the 15th player in VFL/AFL history to win it twice. Fyfe polled a career-high votes (33), beating the runner-up Patrick Dangerfield by 6 votes (27 votes).
Fyfe was named in the 2019 All-Australian Team, his first time since 2015. He was named Captain of the team for the first time.
Australia Post celebrated the 2019 AFL Brownlow Medallist, Nat Fyfe, with the release of a souvenir stamp sheet. It included eight $1 stamps depicting the Map of Australia design from the Love to Celebrate stamp issue. The 2018 sheet had ten stamps. The tabs of the stamps display an image of the Brownlow Medal. Australia Post announced the release of the Souvenir Sheet on the 8 October 2019 for delivery from the 18 October 2019.
