2018 Brownlow Medalist

The 2018 Brownlow Medal for the Fairest and Best in the AFL was won by Tom Mitchell from the Hawthorn Football Club. It has been awarded since 1924.

Australia Post celebrated his win with the release of a souvenir stamp sheet.

The 2018 Brownlow Medallist souvenir stamp sheet features the Hawthorn Hawks’ Tom Mitchell proudly displaying his Brownlow Medal. The souvenir stamp sheet includes 8 x $1 stamps depicting the Map of Australia design from the Love to Celebrate stamp issue. The tabs of the stamps display an image of the Brownlow Medal.

In round 1 of the 2018 season on March 24, Mitchell broke the record for the most disposals in an VFL/AFL game by amassing a total of 54 possessions. Additionally, he became the first player ever to have 50 or more disposals twice in their career. Mitchell accumulated another 50 touches in Hawthorn’s round 15 loss to GWS and subsequently became the first player to have multiple 50+ disposal games in a season. His 848 disposals in 2018 surpassed Matt Crowth’s season record of 825, set almost 12 months earlier. He also won multiple other awards.
