2018 Preseason: AFLX

One of the difficulties of taking Australian Football to the world is that large ovals do not exist in non cricket playing countries. AFLX is played on a rectangular ground like that used for soccer and the Rugby codes.

The cover shows the new Hindmarsh Postmark cancelling a Brisbane Bears AFL Centenary stamp. Built in 1960, Hindmarsh Stadium has never previously hosted a match under the AFL banner. The stadium stands on the site that was once Hindmarsh Oval which housed the West Torrens Football Club of the SANFL from 1905 until 1921, when the team moved to nearby Thebarton Oval. The venue has hosted Adelaide United’s A-League matches since 2003. It has a current capacity of 16,500.

Since 2013 it has been called Coppers Stadium in a naming rights deal.
