On the 8 March 2005 Australia Post released a set of four gummed stamps showing “Sports Treasures”. They were a 50c stamp showing Bradman’s Baggy Green, Aboriginal boxer Lionel Rose’s gloves with which he won the World title, Marjorie Jackson’s running spikes with which she became Australia’s first athletic Gold Medalist and the racing silks of Phar Lap.
The background of the inside of the Stamp Pack shows the crowd at the MCG for the 1956 Olympics.
The maximum card for the Baggy Green shows the Don walking onto the MCG.
A special postmark was released by Hilton Plaza showing his cap. It is a shopping centre on the corner of Bagot St and Sir Donald Bradman Drive. Some covers have the year date missing from the postmark.
In 2007 in the ““Cricket in Australia” The story in Stamps” Prestige Booklet, the Baggy Green stamp was used. Its microdate remains 2005.
In 2010 the stamp was again used on a PNC for the Ashes series against England. Unfortunately England won the five-Test series 3–1. In 2013 it was re-released at an International Stamp Show in Melbourne. The cover and stamp with its original date was overprinted in red foil with “Australia 2013 Centenary of Kangaroo Stamps 10-15 May 2013” It was a limited release of only 250.
The postmarks shown are displayed alone.
