Stampshow Melbourne 02

The weekend after the AFL Grand Final Stampshow Melbourne 02 was held at the National Tennis Centre on the 4-6 October 2002. The three day show was associated with the release of three pictorial postmarks, cricket on Day 1, tennis on Day 2 and AFL on Day 3.

The souvenir sheet shown in the banner used a 45c Globe, map & Southern Cross Stamp with a stylised footballer in the selvedge. Iconic Melbourne Images were on the surrounds of the sheet.

The organising committee released an official cover on the 6 October with the AFL postmark in red.

First Class Collectables released a set of covers showing Tony Lockett, David Neitz, Colonial Stadium and a Sherrin Football.

Coversplease released covers showing Essendon’s Jason Johnson and Hawthorn’s Rayden Tallis tackling a Melbourne Player.

A Generic Australia Post cover was also released.

The 2002 Brisbane Lions Footy Stamps cancelled with the AFL Postmark after their successful retaining of the AFL Premiership with a win over the favourites Collingwood Magpies.
