Metropolis ’90

Metropolis ’90 was held in Melbourne from the 15-19 October 1990. It was the 3rd International Congress of the World Association of the Major Metropolises. It was formed in 1985 and provides the opportunity for large urban centres to discuss problems and exchange ideas.

Australia Post issued a PSE on the 15 October 1990 the first day of the conference. The indicia shows a 43c stamp showing the old Southern Stand at the MCG. The postmark was only used on the first day (APM22640).

The cover was used as the first day of use of the MCG Postmark dated the 24 June 1991. It was the worlds second permanent pictorial postmark (APM23600) following the Gabba postmark.

It was also used for the first day of use of the Football Park postmark (APM27500) which was issued in purple ink for the first day.
